AI companion pricing: subscription versus real monthly cost

A practical cost model for trials, voice credits, image generation, taxes and annual plans.

Independent research ✧ Source-linked feature claims ✧ No fabricated hands-on tests

The number printed next to “monthly plan” is not always the full cost of using an AI companion. Some platforms include ordinary messaging but meter voice or generated media. Others put longer memory or extra companions into a higher tier. The real question is what your normal month would cost—not the cheapest price shown on a promotion.

Separate four cost layers

  1. Base subscription: the recurring cost for the plan you need, not the advertised cheapest annual equivalent.
  2. Credits: variable charges for images, video, voice or enhanced generation.
  3. Add-on tiers: optional access to larger memory, additional characters or premium models.
  4. Renewal effects: taxes, region-specific prices, introductory discounts and automatic trial conversion.

Figures exclude taxes and price changes. For an annual plan, enter the annual payment as the upfront charge and set monthly base to 0, then add monthly extras. Nothing you type is transmitted to this site.

A comparison that avoids a common trap

Suppose a service costs less per month when you pay for an entire year, but you are not sure you like its memory or moderation behavior. The nominal discount may be worse value than paying one month for a more expensive product and cancelling. The amount at risk matters as much as the price per month.

Look particularly closely at trials

Kindroid’s October 2026 documentation describes a three-day trial that requires a payment method and automatically converts if not cancelled. It also describes a short preview and read-only access after certain entitlements end. Rules may differ by region and time; check what is presented to your account rather than assuming every free button works alike.

Questions for every checkout

  • Is the price recurring monthly, quarterly or yearly?
  • When does a free trial automatically renew, if applicable?
  • What happens when message or generation credits run out?
  • Does voice use a separate allowance or a per-minute rule?
  • Are refunds allowed after a purchase or renewal?
  • Will cancelling disable the account, or just premium features?

Compare Kindroid’s credit and tier model with Candy AI’s token-oriented media offering. See the trial checklist before entering payment details.
